Ask for an urgent GP appointment if you or someone you care for has symptoms of cystitis and has:

  1. Pain in the sides or lower back
  2. A very high temperature
  3. Feels cold and shivery
  4. Vomiting or diarrhoea
  5. Confusion

These can be symptoms of a kidney infection. Anyone with these symptoms needs to get tests and treatment quickly

Contact your GP if:

  1. Your symptoms do not improve after 3 days or after taking antibiotics
  2. You have blood in your pee
  3. Your child under age 16 has symptoms of cystitis
  4. You are age 65 or older and have symptoms of a urinary tract infection
  5. You have a male urinary system and have symptoms of cystitis
  6. You’re pregnant and you have symptoms of cystitis
  7. You have symptoms of cystitis and had cystitis in the past 6 months or twice in the past 12 months
  8. You have pelvic pain that does not go away and problems peeing
